Discovering my city’s food spots is one of my favorite things to do, especially when I can share it with other people. And with the pandemic still lingering, it is important to support our local restaurants to help them get through this rough period as well as getting excellent dishes that you may have never heard of before. The pandemic helped me discover new places and take-out that I will keep going back to even after the restrictions lift.
Food Mood
Please welcome one of my favorite spots for Korean food. It is a small family owned restaurant which brings Korean street food to our beautiful city. Particularly, some of my favorites include chicken kimbap (which is like a Korean style of sushi), Rideau crisps and crispy crunchy chicken; you cannot go wrong with these items even for picky eaters.
You can expect to pay around $10 to $15 for a meal per person.
It is located in the heart of downtown near the Rideau Centre at 178b Rideau Street, Ottawa.
They do not currently have a website but they can be found on Uber eats and skip the dishes : Ubereats.com
Mad Radish
If you're looking for a healthy spot full of flavor, this is the place for you! It is an amazing spot for healthy, vegan, and nutritious food for anyone and everyone, it is a salad bar like none other! Regardless if you are vegan or not, this place will satisfy your taste buds. They always have high quality dishes. They take pride in their mindfulness and sustainability.
If you’re curious about this spot I suggest trying the Bibimbowl Hearty Bowl or the Mad Caesar Green Bowl! You can expect to pay around $15 per person for a meal.
It is located at multiple locations throughout Ottawa like 116 Albert street and in the Glebe at 859 Bank Street, Ottawa.

German Doner Kebab
This is another great place to pick up a quick lunch or dinner. It offers sandwiches, wraps, burgers, quesadillas and plenty of fun snacks and appetizers like nachos and flaming fries. And for sure, do not forget to try their famous trio of sauces!
German Doner Kebab only been open for less than a year, opening up during a pandemic is risky but they are increasingly building more and more customers.
My recommendation is the Original Kebab sandwich with lettuce, onions, cabbage and jalapenos. You can expect to pay around $15 for a meal per person.
This spot is located at 272 Elgin Street, Ottawa.

Shinka Sushi Bar
You can never go wrong with this restaurant. Whether you are dining in or taking out, it is always excellent. It is on the more pricier side but their colorful sushi is consistently delicious and fresh. You can expect to pay around 25 to 40+ dollars per person.
Some of my recommendations include: Tuna Kamikaze, Spicy Shrimp and the Gyoza.
It is located just a quick 10 to 15 minute walk from the University of Ottawa campus at 150 Laurier Ave.
